Rowe Technologies Inc. Sponsors San Diego City College Robosub Team

August 4, 2018

2018 Rowe Technologies Inc, being a smaller company decided to sponsor a smaller school. I had been apart of the Robosub program when I went to San Diego City College. This is a community college, the budget is smaller. Also the students are not as far along in acdemic knowledge, so its a new learning experience. But the expectation is these students will not be at this college long term, so new students join the program more often.

We sponsored them with a 600khz SeaPILOT DVL. Its smaller and easy to setup and get running. They used the ROS operating system, and we have developped code in python to help with the process. Also, since they only need to read ASCII serial data, it is very easy to decode the data.

Words from there team captain

The competition went well and we placed 10th overall! We’ve made a lot of progress over the past year and set ourselves up well for the 2019 competition. The DVL was used in the navigation system to track out position in the pool, and we’ll be focusing more on it’s capabilities this year now that we have the control system sorted along with the start of the vision. We published the data on a ROS node and then pulled the info as needed for the mission code. Here is the link to our github if you want to take a look at the code: https://github.com/sdcityrobotics
